Updated: Oct 15, 2021

Blood pressure monitor is a need due to the pandemic and everyone is concerned about their health.

It becomes essential to check blood pressure and maintain it following a good diet, getting a bp monitor could be a helpful device while maintaining good health and prevent hypertension.

Buying a good blood pressure monitor could be a useful device as you don’t have to visit a doctor just for measuring your blood pressure but you have to visit them if your bp is low or high because this is just a device to check bp.

Omron is one of the leading brand when it comes to producing healthcare products and the company also ensure maximum accuracy of the product.

Omron is a Japanese company that has been in the industry for more than 45 years and their products are clinically validated and also meet the validation from AAMI and ESH.

In this post we have compared two of their basic blood pressure monitor and that is Omron Hem 7120 and Omron hem 8712.

Omron uses Intellisense technology on all their bp monitors which ensure more accurate results and comfortable measurement.

What is Intellisense Technology?

This technology allows the device to inflate on its own without any manual instruction or inflation level and deflates on its own in a way that is comfortable to the user.

This technology is important for people with hypertension and other other heart diseases.

All Omron blood pressure monitor comes with this technology including Omron Hem 7120 and 8712.

In terms of Accuracy both show 5% -+accuracy in pulse rate and +-3 mmHg blood pressure rate compared to a lab test which is very close to accuracy and since it comes with some features that increases the accuracy rate of the blood pressure monitor.

There is not much variation in their results but some complain about accuracy in both the products (maybe they are not following the procedure correctly).

You must know the correct procedure before measuring bp or else you will always get inaccurate results.

How to measure blood pressure at home?

  • Sit straight on a chair with your legs uncrossed and your feet flat to the floor.

  • Don’t be in a hurry and keep your breath normal and stay at rest 2 min before taking the measurement.

  • The cuff should be wrapped at the same level of your arm as your heart.

  • Don’t talk and move while taking the measurement.

  • This way you will avoid inaccuracy.

Model design:

The design is almost similar and Omron Hem 8712 is an old device compared to Omron Hem 7120.

Both the model are fully automatic that means you just have to wrap the cuff and press the start button and the device will do the rest of the work.

Both the blood pressure monitors are Upper arm Bp monitors.

The display of both the bp monitors are made of LCD which is normal in all bp monitors but this screen is not suitable in low light.

And the display is big with the dimension of 59mm x 43mm and easy to read for any person

The display will show your systolic, diastolic and pulse rate that is ideal for every bp monitor.

Let’s look the features they have:

Hypertension Indicator:

This is a indicator that will warn you if you have a blood pressure rate higher than normal which could be helpful if you forget the normal bp range and this will be helpful for older people.

Blood pressure higher than 135/85 mmHg is considered hypertension.

This symbol looks like a heart and it will blink if blood pressure exceeds normal values.

And this feature is available in both Hem 7120 and hem 8712.

Irregular Heartbeat Indicator:

This is an Indicator that will tell you if you have an improper pulse rate or Heartbeat and this will be helpful in taking the right decision at the right time.

After taking the measurement if you have an irregular heartbeat then a symbol of Hearts in square will blink (this indicator is different than Hypertension indicator).

If this symbol appears in many results then contact your doctor.

This feature is only available in Omron Hem 7120 and not in Omron hem 8712.

Body Movement Detector:

This feature is very useful as many people move their arm or body while taking the measurement and this affects the result and shows an inaccurate result.

A symbol of body will appear in the display when the result is shown and you have to take the measurement again to ensure accuracy.

This is a drawback in both the bp monitor as they both do not have a memory storage and you have to manually store your previous results on your phone or notebook.

And both 7120 and 8712 will show your last reading only.
